Natural Wine meets Cantillon

Those who like to keep up to speed with the growing natural wine roadshow may like to know there's a natural wine fair in Belgium the week after next, at Wijnfolie in Aalter on Sunday June 5th and the Cantillon brewery in Brussels the following day - full details on the Wijnfolie website here. You can also follow them on Twitter @Wijnfolie.

I like the idea of holding an event at Cantillon. There are strong parallels between natural wines and gueuze I've been thinking about for a while and to which I'll return.

  1. Fiona, the Cantillon people always come up with interesting wine-related events.
Incidently, it’s there I first met Didier Daguenau, in the late eighties, as well as pear-cider (poiré) producers with outstanding bottles.
The excellent chef from restaurant “Les Brigittines” in Brussels, Dirk Myny, also gets fine lees from them, straight from the bottom of Kriek-tanks (the cherry-flavored Gueuze), in order to let his beef cheeks simmer for 4 hours and become tender and soft, yet delicately perfumed and all velvety. Great stuff!

  2. Wow, that sounds amazing, Luc. Must get back to Brussels. Haven't been for an age.
